WHO WE ARE:

The Kernersville Shooting Stars Youth Basketball Academy (SSYBA) is the first of its kind within the city. The Academy
Is a community based organization that develops character building skills as well as the enhancement of basketball
FUN-damentals for all youth in Kernersville and the surrounding areas. We encourage the “Student First” philosophy and require that each participant maintains a 2.5 GPA . SSYBA focuses on a positive, structured, and FUN-filled environment
for youth to learn and build on character as well as their basketball skills.

PURPOSE:

The Kernersville Shooting Stars Youth Basketball ACADEMY, offers a 6 month structured basketball program. Our ACADEMY is open to boys and girls in grades K through 6.  The ACADEMY will provide healthy character building techniques with an abundance of basketball knowledge.  Our tutoring program is designed to help youth of the Academy who are struggling in school and remind our youth that education is the priority.  A variety of community leaders will be invited to share information with the participants; to include WSFCS educators, Armed Services members, Church representatives, and Professional Athletes to name a few.  In addition, there will be a nutritious snack after each practice and game for the participants.

PONY

The Pony Division consist of youth ages 5-7 (PK - 2nd Grade) This Division is primarily for the developmental and FUN-dementals of Basketball. The youth in the Pony Division will only play other teams within the Academy to focus on development and team etiquette.

MUSTANG

Our MUSTANG Division consist of youth in ages 7-9 (grades 3-4 grade). This Division is will receive basketball instruction and continued fundamental development. This division will compete within the Academy and be allowed to compete in local city tournaments. Our Primary focus is the Student firsts philosophy and to encourage positive behaviors.

STALLION

Our Stallion Division will consist of youth 10-12 (grades 5th-6th) This division's instruction will be a little more detailed and the continued focus will be responsibility for your actions and teamwork concept. We will continue to encourage positive behaviors will enhancing the fundamentals and game strategies. This division will be also be allowed to compete in local community games/tournaments.

Included in our MEMBERSHIP

MEMBERSHIP INLUDES: 8-10 hours of basketball instruction per month; Academy Practice T-shirt; Complete Team uniform; 2 Awards Ceremonies; Academy Handbook for each family; 2 Field Trips (1 outside the state of NC); End of Season Banquet; Weekly scrimmages/games; Tutoring for at risk youth; Certified coaches and mentors; monthly Academy Activity calendars; monthly Community Service

Parents CODE OF ETHICS

*I and my friends and family, will remain in the stands at all times during practice and games, unless beckoned by the coach. *I will provide positive support, care and encourage for my child. *I will encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating support for all players, coaches, and officials at every game and practice. *I will remember that the game is for the children and they are having fun and learning. *I will ask my child to treat the players, coaches, and officials with respect. *I promise to encourage my child to follow all rules set forth by the Academy. *I promise that I will not use profanity in or around the children of the Academy.

Players CODE OF CONDUCT

*I will have a positive attitude about my participation at the Academy. *I will display positive behavior at all times. *I will attend every practice and game I can, and will notify my coach if I cannot make them. *I will do my very best to listen and to learn from my coaches. *I will treat my coaches and other players, officials and fans with respect. *I will encourage my parents to be involved with my team because it is important to me. *I will do my best in school, and I understand that I must keep a 2.5 GPA to continue participation in the Academy. If my grades fall, the Academy will provide four (4) week tutoring. *I will remember that the Academy is about learning and having fun. *I will abide by all the rules of the game. *I will come to practice properly prepared.
